Hamburg greets Europe! From June 11th until June 14th 2015 the sports club „Startschuss SLSV“ hosts the European Championship III of the International Gay & Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA). 30 teams with almost 400 participants are expected to join the matches on the grounds of Hamburger Sport-Verein’s youth academy. The tournament takes place under the patronage of Olaf Scholz, first mayor of Hamburg. The winning teams will receive their trophies and medals by our special guest Thomas Hitzlsperger.

Discrimination in sports has decreased, but is far from overcome. While for the participants of the IGLFA European Championship III the sporting competition in a fear-free environment is of paramount importance, at the same time it signalises: On the pitch sexual orientation does not matter.

The IGLFA European Championship III stands for independence irrespective of sexual orientation. So, naturally, heterosexual athletes can participate – which more often play in gay and lesbian teams than one would think! Qualified for participation are all clubs that are Premium Members of the IGLFA at the time of the tournament.
